[2.4] Operators - broad permissions
The operators in SproutCMS can be added to categories and these categories can have specific permissions set that govern what operators can see and do.
When an operator logs in the system will look at what category or categories they are in and provide them with appropriate access and tools.
By default SproutCMS is installed with a default category named "Primary administrators". This category has full access to all standard Operator functionality within SproutCMS*.
Editing permissions
To edit the permissions of a given category, click onto the cog symbol to the right of the category name and choose to 'edit' option. This will take you to a page with the following editable options:
Category name
This is the name of the category
Options
Indicate whether this category of operators should receive any automatically generated emails from SproutCMS
If you wish to limit the physical network location where operators from this category should be in order to gain access to SproutCMS, indicate by entering allowed ip addresses in a comma separated list.
General permissions
Set whether an operator in this category can:
- edit operators, operator categories and subsites use the cms tools area and view cms logs
- edit the home page
- put page edits live without requiring approval from another operator
Per tab permissions
A tab is essentially a 'module' in SproutCMS. This area allows you to determine what SproutCMS tabs operators in this category can access. It provides the options to either:
Block access to specific tabs
or
Grant access to specific tabs
In addition to indicating access it is then possible to choose what functionality is allowed within a given tab, including what an operator can see and whether they are allowed to:
- add records
- edit records
- delete records
- manage categories
- import/export data to the module
- generate reports
- update record ordering
Per Subsite permissions
This allows you to indicate which subsites operators in this category are allowed to manage (if indeed you do have multiple sites managed by SproutCMS).
Operator management permissions
This allows you to specify what operator categories (if any) that these operators are allowed to manage.
See also "Per item permissions".
- Note that there is another level of access above "Primary administrators" primarily designed for web developers. This login type provides the operator with tools to assista with configuration and trouble shooting.
